23 Oct SONGWRITING TIP: TRY SOME EAR SAMPLING
When most people think about writing a song they tend to think about parking themselves away in a nice quiet corner and contemplating their thoughts.
But, just like most things in life, there are many ways that people find inspiration to write their songs and music.
Here’s a bit of a crazy one from music legend Tom Waits. Called Ear Sampling.
To get his inspiration Tom sometimes turns on several radios at once in the room he’s in.
All tuned to different stations.
And then he sits and listens for interesting music overlaps that happen during the cacophony that occurs.
And that’s how he finds his lyrics and music.
So next time you are stuck trying to find that combination of chords or that great mix of words why not give this a try. You never know, it might work for you to.
Turn on all those radios, roll the dice and listen for the interesting overlaps.
