PLEASE HELP SUPPORT THE RECOVERY AND WELLBEING OF OUR SERVING AND EX-SERVING MEN AND WOMEN

ABOUT SOLDIER SONGS & VOICES

Founded by Dustin Welch in 2011 in Austin, Texas, Soldier Songs and Voices is now a nationwide program, with 11 chapters operating throughout the USA. Dustin saw an opportunity for the program to work here in Australia and through the support and backing of People First Charitable Trust, launched Soldier Songs and Voices Australia in March 2016.

We are very aware of the sacrifices our defence men and women have made and continue to make for their country, so wanted a way to give back and show our gratitude. The workshops are a place for like-minded people to come together, have some fun and learn some new skills.

Our goal is to create long-lasting change through songwriting and music to the lives of serving and ex-serving men and women.

Songwriting is a form of ‘exposure’ that is extremely effective when it comes to helping overcome trauma. When you combine that with a group of like-minded people and throw in learning a few chords, you have the perfect ingredients for some real healing to take place.

WORKSHOPS

FREE GUITAR AND SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS FOR CURRENT AND EX-SERVING MEN AND WOMEN

Kick things off with the six-week guitar course where you’ll learn some basic chords and a few strumming patterns. Then, move onto the eight-week songwriting course where you can put pen to paper and start turning your stories into songs.

Each workshop is run by an experienced volunteer musician and instructor who will guide you seamlessly through the process. These workshops encourage you to find your voice, express yourself and to have fun with a group of like-minded people.

Guitars are provided in the sessions to get the journey going. However, if you play already and have your own guitar, please bring it along. No previous experience is necessary.

If you’ve ever thought that you’d like to express how you feel through music, this is the perfect opportunity!

We currently have working chapters in:

  • Brisbane CBD
  • Aitkenvale, Townsville
  • Frankston, Melbourne
  • Palmerston, NT
  • Nowra

If you would like to come along to a free workshop, please use the form below and we’ll be in touch!
